When chiropractic care was founded, D.D. Palmer's effort to find a single
cause for all disease led him to say: "A subluxated vertebra is the cause of
95 percent of all diseases. The other five percent is caused by displaced
joints other than those of the vertebral column.". Although a wide diversity
of ideas currently exists among chiropractors, they share the belief that the
spine and health are related in a fundamental way, and that this relationship
is mediated through the nervous system. Chiropractors study the
biomechanics, structure and function of the spine, along with what they say
are its effects on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and its role in
health and disease. On the left, we see an example of how our body
communicates. Think of your nerves as roads for carrying the information to
and from various parts of your body. Your spine is like the super highway
that the majority of the traffic travels accross. When you have a vertabral
subluxation, or a pinched nerve in your spine, it creates congestion. This
inhibits the proper flow of information and can cause a wide variety of
symptoms depending on where the blockage occurs. Your chiropractor will
work with you to attempt to restore the proper flow of signals in your
body. For a description of what problems may be causing your symptoms,
